The Kasurian Society

The Kasurian Society brings together people committed to the understanding of how civilisation works—and how to contribute to its future. Through salons, writing and research, we examine the ideas, institutions and practices on which a flourishing society depends. The Fellowship supports this work and gives it a common home.

The Society has chapters in London, San Francisco, Toronto and New York, with Chicago planned to follow soon.

The work of the Society

Convene. Salon gatherings bring fellows together for sustained discussion, the exchange of ideas, and the cultivation of friendships across disciplines.

Publish. Essays, art, and print issues to come.

Investigate. Kasurian Research is taking shape as a programme of sustained inquiry into civilisation, and its foundations, institutions and possibilities.

The Fellowship

Join by taking out a Fellow subscription. Fellowship includes access to the salon and the quarterly print editions.

Probationary Fellow

Your first three months are a probationary period, with access to the Society’s salons and quarterly prints from the outset. After three months, fellowship is confirmed subject to good conduct and commitment to the Society’s purposes and principles.

Fellow

Participate in the Society’s salons and gatherings, and sustain its intellectual life through your presence, judgement and support.

Research Fellow

For fellows who wish to undertake sustained work through Kasurian Research. Details of the programme and entry into the Research Fellowship are shared after the probationary period is completed.

Our principles

1. Seek truth. Ask serious questions, give reasons, and remain willing to revise your judgement.
2. Practise courtesy. Challenge ideas with rigour. Respect the dignity and boundaries of others.
3. Welcome disagreement. Engage unfamiliar views fairly and in good faith.
4. Exercise independent judgement. The Society is non-partisan. Examine arguments on their merits.
5. Think across generations. Build relationships and institutions whose value can outlast us.
6. Act constructively. Bring practical judgement and a willingness to work on the problems you identify.
7. Learn from tradition. Draw on inherited knowledge while subjecting every claim to serious inquiry.
8. Create value. Contribute to the life of the Society and the wider world. Give more than you extract.

Sustained by its Fellows

Fellows pay dues through their subscriptions and support the Society’s work: print, events, writing, art, and research. Fellows are entitled to receive the quarterly print editions as part of their subscription, and attend any Kasurian salon in any of our city chapters. Non-fellows may purchase future print issues separately. Those who wish to support us further may make an additional donation or explore our Patronage tier.
